{"id":1008,"date":"2012-11-20T19:42:50","date_gmt":"2012-11-20T19:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chsblueandgoldfoundation.org\/wp_1\/?page_id=1008"},"modified":"2026-03-19T12:54:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T12:54:07","slug":"scholarships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chsblueandgoldfoundation.org\/?page_id=1008","title":{"rendered":"Steve Westby Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Steven Allen Westby was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, in 1954.\u00a0 As a high school student, he worked on the yearbook staff and he was a standout tennis player.\u00a0 He attended Vanderbilt University and Emory University School of Law.\u00a0 Steve and his wife, Sue, raised four children in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked as an attorney and founded his own law firm.\u00a0 He enjoyed coaching at Murphy Candler Little League and served several years as president of the organization.\u00a0 All four of his children\u2014Lucas, Elizabeth, Ruth and Paul attended and graduated from Chamblee Charter High School during the years of 1995-2008.\u00a0 At Chamblee Charter High School, he served as Governance Council Chair, Mock Trial Coach, and Constitutional Law Adviser for the \u201cWe the People\u201d team and fall baseball coach.\u00a0 Most importantly, he was a friend and mentor to many students.<\/p>\n<p>In his work and his community, Steve Westby brought out the best in the people around him.\u00a0 When he died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 55, the Blue &amp; Gold Foundation that is made up of CCHS Faculty (active and retired), parents and alumni honored him by starting this scholarship.\u00a0 It is to be awarded to the graduating senior who demonstrates the qualities of leadership, integrity, service and school spirit.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to apply for this scholarship, <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/emav7zwT8dohFBBLA\">please complete the application here<\/a>.
